Project Linus
The Red Barn Sewing & Yarn Center, along with Janome America, was proud to be a part of Project Linus National Make a Blanket Day. This annual event was held on February 7, 2007, bringing together hundreds of Janome dealers and Project Linus Chapters nationwide. Project Linus is a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization. It is their mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. The gifts of new, homemade, washable blankets, quilts and afghans, are lovingly created by "blanketeers".
Make a Blanket Day 2007 at the Red Barn was a tremendous success! Our wonderful customers generously donated thirty-five beautiful blankets and quilts! Janome America sewing machine dealers across the country collected nearly 25,000 handmade blankets for this year’s Project Linus National Make a Blanket Day.
Blanketeers received a raffle ticket for every completed blanket donated. At the conclusion of Make a Blanket Day, one ticket was drawn for someone to win a new Janome DC3050 computerized sewing machine. The lucky winner was Fay Howell of Lynn, Massachusetts.
Project Linus Local Chapter Coordinator, Janice Binette of Methuen, MA, distributes the blankets we receive to the following local hospitals: Anna Jacques, Lawrence General, Holy Family, Shriners and St. Memorial.
Make a Blanket Day at the Red Barn has been a tremendous success! Our wonderful customers generously donated seventy-seven beautiful blankets and quilts in 2003, sixty-four in 2004 and seventy-six in 2005!!
We continue to participate with Project Linus by being a permanent drop-off point for anyone wanting to donate blankets throughout the year.
Make plans NOW to join us on February 16th for Make a Blanket Day 2008.
